India on Track to Become Tech Powerhouse

June 12, 2025 – New Delhi
In a bold and visionary statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India is on a transformative journey toward becoming a global technology powerhouse. Addressing a national gathering, he emphasized the country’s commitment to innovation, digital infrastructure, and inclusive growth—especially targeting benefits for the country’s underprivileged and rural communities.

From Digital India to Tech-Driven Bharat
PM Modi cited the Digital India mission, which has helped connect over 1.2 billion citizens to key services like e-governance, digital payments, telemedicine, and online education. These reforms, he said, are not just urban-centric; they are designed to bridge the digital divide and uplift rural economies.

Technology is not just for the elite—it is for the empowerment of the poorest,” Modi stated, reaffirming the government’s aim to make India self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) in critical sectors like semiconductors, AI, cybersecurity, and clean tech.

India’s Booming Tech Ecosystem
India now boasts over 115,000 tech startups, with 100+ unicorns and a fast-growing presence in emerging sectors such as AI, fintech, blockchain, and space tech. The PM also highlighted the government’s support through:

PLI Schemes for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing

Skilling initiatives to train youth in AI, robotics, and cloud computing

Global partnerships with countries like the U.S., Japan, and Israel in cutting-edge research

Tech for the Masses
Perhaps the most impressive impact has been on rural and marginalized communities. Initiatives like Aadhaar, UPI, and PM-WANI (public Wi-Fi) have made digital tools accessible and useful to even the remotest villages.

“India is not just consuming technology, we are building it, innovating it, and exporting it,” Modi added.

Looking Ahead
With the upcoming rollout of India AI Mission, the National Quantum Mission, and massive investment in 5G and 6G infrastructure, India’s digital economy is projected to cross $1 trillion by 2030.

PM Modi concluded his speech by calling upon the youth and private sector to lead the next wave of innovation. “The future belongs to those who innovate—and India is ready.”
